- 5 Things You Must Do with the Family This Summeron June 23, 2020 at 12:00 am
Most of us remember looking forward to summer vacations when the whole family got to go to the beach. Why wouldn’t you look forward to fun in the sun with your toes in the sand? The beaches of Destin, Florida are scattered with happy families playing together all summer long. If you are planning a trip to the coast, here are some of our favorite things to do. If you don’t have a trip on the calendar, these might get you to change that. Grand Boulevard has a number of great spots to enjoy drinks or treats while safely social distancing. Black Bear Bread Company just opened in the ground level of the Hyatt. Enjoy Stumptown Coffee and incredible pastries and the kids can have fun running free throughout Grand Boulevard's lawns. Between Cantina Laredo and Tommy Bahama's is a small park of water fountains kids love to play in. Pick up to-go food at Laredo's and eat outside while the kids cool off. The Hub 30A is your one-stop destination for great music, food, and fun! Grab a seat on the lawn and take your pick from the surrounding restaurants. From burgers and nachos to ice cream and classic milkshakes, there is a little of everything at the Hub. Throughout the year, they also offer fun events including live concerts, football games on the big screen, and outdoor movies. Baytowne Wharf is a popular spot for delicious food, great shopping, and fun activities for kids. Along with having a carousel and playground, Baytowne also offers outdoor movies and concerts all summer. On Wednesdays from 7-9pm, you can enjoy live entertainment from local and regional musicians at the Events Plaza Stage. The lineup for May includes Boukou Grove and Luke Langford Band. Each Sunday at 8pm, you can grab a chair or blanket and watch a family favorite movie under the stars. If you want to get adventurous at the beach, there are a number of watersports to enjoy. Paddleboards, surfboards, and jet skis are all available to rent for the beach. Spend your day ON the water and get close to dolphins, sea turtles, and tons of fish. Take a charter boat out and join a group fishing for the day. Grab your friends and ride on the inflatable banana boat for some laughs. Don't let another vacation go by without catching a beach sunrise or sunset. We're so eager to get to the beach that we get there early and everyone is worn out by lunch, or else right after breakfast missing the sunrise. Plan at least one day to pull up a beach chair and catch one of the most beautiful views you'll see of the sky's multiple colors seemingly painted over the water. Middle of the day is when the beach is most occupied so catching just the right time will be a peaceful break for the family with a sight you won't forget. Summer has begun and we're looking forward to getting out of the house and enjoying the sun while safely social distancing. Plan ahead and make the most of your Destin vacation! Make new memories with your family and start your own traditions.

June 20th marks the onset of summer. We have 90 days from summer solstice to enjoy our favorite season of the year. On the Emerald Coast of Florida, summer means long days on powder white sand and in emerald green waters. It means breathtaking sunsets and outdoor activities every day of the week. How will you spend your 90 days of summer at Miramar Beach? Miramar Beach is on the western end of the beaches of South Walton and the next-door neighbor of Destin beach. We love the city vibe of Miramar Beach without losing that Emerald Coast feel. Five miles of powder white sand running along emerald green waters makes this the best beach to walk on! Miramar Beach has plenty of shopping and restaurants. If ever your summer vacation throws you some raining days, Miramar Beach has you covered with Silver Shells outlet mall. It is also home to scenic 98. A scenic road that runs along side beautiful powder white sand and emerald green waters. There are several public beach accesses along the way so stepping on to white sand is never a problem. What are some of our favorite Miramar Beach activities during summer? After a long day at the beach there is nothing like heading to the Village of Baytowne Wharf for a live music concert. Sit back and relax under the stars while listening to talented local and regional artists perform weekly. Another one of our favorite celebrations during summer in Miramar Beach is the 4th of July. There is an amazing firework show at the Events Plaza in the Village as well as live music and kid’s activities throughout the night. With several venues lighting up the sky with fireworks, you can always stay in your cozy Miramar Beach vacation rental and watch from the balcony! Summer always goes by way to fast, especially here on the Emerald Coast of Florida. Book your Miramar Vacation Rental soon. Enjoy your 90 days of summer with beautiful beaches, good friends and Destin fun!

- Traveling Tips During a Pandemicon May 5, 2020 at 12:00 am
Who else misses the days when you plan a vacation and you get to take it with no delays and no extra precautions? We sure do! Unfortunately, we’re living in unprecedented times so our getaways are a little different, if we get to take them at all. So how do you protect yourself on a Destin, Florida vacation during Covid-19? We’ve got some tips. The social distancing guidelines require you to follow the 6 feet apart rule as well as groups of less that 10 people. Since the current virus is airborne and very contagious, they’ve provided these guidelines to help flatten the curve when it’s essential for many to be out. When you’re traveling, try to avoid crowded areas. Big rest stops are high traffic areas. You can pack snacks to travel with to reduce stopping and consider driving rather than flying so as to avoid a busy airport. Wash hands often. This is something that should be done even when there isn’t a pandemic and should go without saying. Wearing gloves has become common but it is easy to cross-contaminate. Touching items in a grocery store, then your face, then your wallet or phone is spreading germs just the same. Wash hands with soap for at least 20 seconds and then dry. Hand sanitizer can also be effective as long as it contains 60% alcohol. Rather than stay in a hotel, spring for a private vacation home. You can avoid the heavy hotel traffic and stress of how clean the room is and stay in a beautiful vacation rental on 30A. Keep the family together by choosing a spacious home with extra bedrooms. Property management companies are going above and beyond to accommodate guests and keep everything properly disinfected. Sunny beaches and salt air are sure to reduce the stress of the current pandemic. We can’t be sure what the future holds and the news changes by the hour. What we do know is there are many people doing everything they can to ensure safety. We can do our own part to follow guidelines, minimize our own stress, and take each day as it comes. We look forward to everyone being able to enjoy the beaches and traveling like we used to. Hope to see you soon on the Emerald Coast!
- Things We Can’t Wait to Do When Social Distancing is Overon April 15, 2020 at 12:00 pm
It’s been a weird year so far for sure. None of us were expecting a global pandemic and sheltering at home is new for many. That being said, home is a safe place and the more Covid-19 stops spreading around, the sooner we can get back to normal. Maybe you have a running list of the things you’re eager to do as soon as this is all over. Here are some of the things we can’t wait to do here in Destin, Florida. Get back on the beach – Sure, we’re lucky to live in a beautiful vacation destination but when they close the beaches, it’s just like everywhere else. When this all started, we could still lay on the beach and relax as long as we were 6 feet away from others. That wasn’t too bad. Now, beaches are closed so no one gets to enjoy them. For many of us locals, getting sun with our toes in the sand listening to the waves is one of the best ways to relieve stress. So it could be pretty handy right now. Shop at the outlets – Retail therapy is a real thing! Silver Sands Outlet Mall has tons of stores with great discounts and it’s a fun place to go even to kill time. Of course, new clothes don’t matter too much when you’re home 24/7 but it’s still fun to shop. We look forward to being released back into the shopping world and getting great deals. Get Mexican food – Sure, we can have our own taco nights but it doesn’t compare to El Jalisco in the Destin Commons or Cantina Laredo’s in Grand Boulevard. Thankfully, they’re offering curbside pickup (even margaritas!) so if you’re brave enough to venture out, they’ll take care of you. We tried to find some of their recipes online to recreate but it just wasn’t the same. Hug our friends – Even if you aren’t a hugger, how much do you miss your friends and family? Everything that bugged your before about your siblings or neighbors just don’t even matter anymore. Perspective sure does change when you can’t hop over to hang out with your best friends. Highway 98 sure will be busy when this is lifted and we’ll all be out visiting each other. A post-quarantine party is definitely somewhere on the calendar! Send kids back to school – It seems everyone has a newfound appreciation for teachers now. We knew they were amazing but once you’re stuck at home around the clock with kids AND trying to teach them, it’s a bit easy to lose your mind. Teaching isn’t for everyone and kids thrive on routine so it will really be best when they’re back at school with the professionals. Of course, we’re all praying for good health and things to simmer down. The most important thing is to be safe. In the meantime, we’ll hunker down and dream about being back on the beach or on a Destin vacation. Stay safe!
- Dear Beachon April 14, 2020 at 12:00 am
Dear Beach It’s been 3 weeks and 3 days of quarantine to be exact. How I miss your beauty, there is nothing that you lack! I can see you; I can hear you; I can smell your salty air. But to walk my feet across you would be a careless dare. Oh, how much I wish I were with you hanging with my friends. Spending the day on powder white sand until the sun descends. Playing in the emerald green waters where laughter is all you hear. How much time I would love to spend with you, every day, every month, every year! You bring so much to our town, visitors, and locals you unite. All come together from all over the world to enjoy your beautiful sites. So, Dear Beach although you are off limits, just for a little while. I will sit back and reminisce about you; it always brings a smile. And as my mind is flooded with all the good times and the fun. I will be making plans to see you again when all of this is done!
- 5 Ways to Boost to Your Mental Healthon April 10, 2020 at 10:01 am
During these unprecedented times, we all might have times where we are overly anxious. Our go-to ways of boosting our moods may be off the table right now. Meeting up with friends, going to the gym, relaxing at the beach in Destin, shopping at the outlet mall – these are on hold until Covid-19 slows down. Does that mean we’re just stuck at home with hearts racing worrying about the future? We’ve got some tips to help you get some relief without prescriptions or even leaving the neighborhood. Be active – How active can you be at home? There are countless videos online of online workouts you can do for FREE in your living room. Practice some yoga which will help calm you. Or do a Zumba workout and have fun dancing. If you have a gym membership, many gyms are offering online classes you can do from home. If you have kids at home, chase them around the house, they’ll love it! Exercise is a great way to burn off anxious energy. Time block – Don’t let yourself get overwhelmed with all you have to do. If you’re working from home, plan a time management strategy each night for the next day. When you don’t have a plan, you can get more anxious not knowing where to start. Some people might enjoy renovating and gardening and all kinds of home projects but that’s not for everyone. Have a list visible for your priorities and don’t get too pressured to do more than you need. Watch your diet – Comfort food can be you go-to when you’re feeling down. There’s nothing wrong with eating and drinking what you enjoy. There are some things, however, that can affect and even increase your anxiety. You know that feeling after drinking espresso where your heart is racing and you feel like you can run a marathon? Well, when you’re already feeling nervous, caffeine can increase your jitters. Alcohol is another thing that can increase your anxiety. At first, a glass of wine might calm your nerves but two or three glasses can definitely do the opposite. Too much sugar or dehydration can also affect your moods. Get enough sleep – Have you head of good sleep hygiene? It’s not just getting 8 hours of sleep. You can develop good sleep hygiene that will help make your sleep more restful. Avoid caffeine late at night. Caffeine is a stimulant and can keep you awake hours after consuming it. Spicy foods or heavy meals before bed can result in indigestion which will also disrupt sleep. Avoid screen time in bed. The glow of a phone or television can make your mind too active to fall asleep. Try some meditation or reading a book to unwind. Get outside – Most people can at least sit on their porch or pull up a chair in the yard even if we can’t go to the beach. Fresh air and warm sunshine can do a lot for your mood. It can get stuffy inside day in and day out so don’t forget to step out for some Vitamin D. Plan a backyard picnic or grill dinner outside. Set up a hammock and enjoy a nice breeze. If you’re able to get around the neighborhood, take a bike ride or walk the dogs. 30A has bike paths and walking trails to take advantage of while still social distancing. A change of scenery can be nice for everyone. Whether we’re in the middle of a pandemic or not, many of us get anxious at times. These are good reminders to have on hand so that everyday we feel our best. Until your next Destin vacation when you can truly relax, save this article to give yourself a nice healthy boost.

Whether you’re stuck at home this week or not, you can save this article for a rainy day. People are getting stir crazy and might be looking for new ideas to try at home. We’re thankful for the nice weather lately but there’s nowhere to go so here are some things you and your crew can try in the meantime. Plan your next vacation – Sure, we don’t know what the future holds so we can’t lock in dates right away but you can look into where you’re going and what there is to do. If you’re dying for a beach vacation, you can plan out an itinerary for a Destin, Florida trip. Look up restaurants, read reviews, see when the Happy Hours are. Find out about bike rentals and bike paths to check out. Start cooking - So many people have recipes saved up that they intend to try one day. Use this time to start trying those or work on making your own. Pinterest has endless ideas for every category of cooking and baking. Or watch your favorite cooking channel and pick up some great tips. Several grocery stores are still offering grocery delivery so take advantage of the opportunity and you won’t have to go out. Get organized - Now is the time to get rid of clutter. You might be thinking how you can clean when the whole family is home around the clock. We’re talking about long-term ideas, not the living room. Go through your spice cabinet. Purge those closets and throw out clothes that don’t fit or never get worn. When the kids aren’t looking, box up old books or toys they no longer use. Think of ways to benefit your stay-home crew like organizing snacks in the pantry so everyone can get their own. Or a meal plan so dinners are known ahead of time. Go back in time – We mean use “snail mail”. When was the last time you sent a real letter? Some of you probably not in years. But how much do you love getting a personal card or letter in the mail? Make a list of friends and family you miss and want to make smile. Order some envelopes and blank cards or get out a notebook and start writing. Make an epic fort – Forts have come a long way since we were little. We used to just tie a few sheets together and put them across some furniture and call it a day. That’s pretty fun but there are several ways you can take your blanket fort skills up a notch with some other household items. We’re all affected somehow by the weird times we’re in, but you can still find ways to stay positive during your day. Until you’re back enjoying the views at your 30A vacation rental, try some of our staying-home suggestions and spread some positivity. Hopefully, the beaches will be back open soon and we can get back to the normal life. Stay safe everyone!
